Matsukawa Village, Kitaazumi District, Nagano Prefecture, is a majestic land surrounded by the 3,000m tall mountains of the Northern Alps. Known as "the last village preserving the original Azumino landscape," the area is characterized by its severe cold and large temperature fluctuations. The fertile land, supporting the pure streams and groundwater of the Northern Alps, produces thriving agriculture. The quality of the sake rice produced here is highly regarded nationwide. The region boasts a particularly high proportion of premium-grade rice, and receives contract cultivation requests from sake breweries both within and outside the prefecture.
